The Microbiology Department is advertising an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist opportunity with a strong background in Microbiology (Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology) with possible rotation into Molecular once initial competency is gained. Candidates must hold HCPC registration now or be due to become registered in the next 3 months.

Responsibilities
  • Rotate through sections of the laboratory and contribute to a 7-day service covering bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, serology, parasitology and molecular testing.
  • Train others once competencies are gained in the relevant sections.
  • Support teamwork, CPD, and effective communication as key skills for the role.
  • Participate in a 24/7 shift pattern, including early, core, late and night shifts, with weekends and bank holidays on rotation.
  • Maintain professional registration and competencies as an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and contribute to service delivery in a high-volume laboratory environment (the department processes over 1,000,000 specimens per year).
Qualifications
  • HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with a strong Microbiology background (Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology).
  • Possible opportunity to rotate into Molecular once initial competency is gained.
  • Candidates must have current HCPC registration or be due to be registered within the next 3 months.
  • Ability to work a 24/7 shift pattern including early, core, late, and night shifts; weekends and bank holidays on rotation.
