Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly team of Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Microbiology Support Workers.

The laboratory holds full UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189:2022 and is an approved IBMS training laboratory for Biomedical Scientists seeking to complete the Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be working within the Microbiology section of the laboratory which includes bacteriology, parasitology and mycology and there may be a requirement to work within the Virology and Molecular section, subject to suitable training. There is also an expectation that you will participate in the out-of-hours service, after receiving training.

As a Biomedical Scientist you will be expected to be able to rotate through all areas of the laboratory as required to perform all designated duties in accordance with local SOPs and to conform to Health and Safety regulations.

Job responsibilities

The Microbiology laboratory is well equipped with a Biomerieux MS and VITEKS for automated identification and sensitivity testing, and a VIDAS immunoassay system. Two VIRTUO's are in place for automated blood culture monitoring and the laboratory has a range of molecular platforms including the SeroSep EntericBio system, Cepheid Genexpert and the Biomerieux TORCH.

The post holder will be required to work as part of the Microbiology team and will be expected to rotate through all sections of the department.
