Overview
Histopathology at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a registered Biomedical Scientist who is proactive, self-motivated and has excellent communication and organisational skills. The post offers opportunities to extend skills in Histology, including A-C category dissection, and in digital pathology, across a service that operates Monday to Saturday.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in Routine Histology; IHC/Specials; Digital and microscopy QC.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues; familiarity with automated IHC machines and molecular techniques is desirable.
- Participate in training and competency assessment; provide mentorship for Associate practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistant staff at Band 5 level.
- Understand ISO 15189 standards, health and safety requirements, audits, and education techniques.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Essential: HCPC registration; BSc Biomedical Science or Level 6 Apprenticeship; HCPC registration portfolio completed.
- Essential: Pathology laboratory experience; LIM system use; experience of audit and quality management systems; knowledge of UKAS and ISO 15189; knowledge of health and safety in medical laboratory environments.
- Desirable: Training and support of other staff; Histopathology laboratory experience; Histopathology digital experience.

- IT/computing skills and ability to engage in extracurricular activities as applicable.
