Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in the UK is seeking an enthusiastic individual for a Specimen Reception position at their Coventry and Nuneaton sites. The role includes processing samples and data entry while being focused on patient care. Good literacy, numeracy, and intermediate IT skills are essential. Full training is provided. Interviews are scheduled for February 2026 and previous experience in diagnostic pathology is a plus. This is an entry-level full-time role.

Job description

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to work in Specimen Reception at our University Hospital Coventry site and our George Eliot site in Nuneaton.

We are looking for individuals who can work accurately under pressure and are patient focused. Duties will include receipt, sorting and processing of samples, aiding laboratory staff in some aspects of technical work, and entry of patient data onto the pathology computer system.

Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills are required; as are intermediate IT skills. You should have the ability to work as part of a team and to manage your own workload. Previous experience of data entry or working in a diagnostic pathology environment would be advantageous however full training will be given to the successful candidates. These positions are not suitable for graduates requiring a training placement in order to complete HCPC registration and are also not an automatic entry route into a trainee biomedical scientist role.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Under supervision and according to Standard Operative Procedures perform basic duties within the laboratory supporting other staff within the team whilst providing optimum patient care. Booking in specimens onto the laboratory computer system and being the first point of contact for telephone enquiries.
