Job Title: Locum Pharmacist (ICU, Medical, Surgery)

Banding: Band 7/8a

Location: London

Working Hours: 09:00 to 17:30, Monday – Friday

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: Until end of May 2025

Rate: £30-£43 per hour

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacist to join our team, specializing in ICU, medical, and surgical care. This role involves providing expert pharmaceutical care to patients in intensive care units, medical wards, and surgical departments. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, optimizing patient outcomes, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service to Adult ITU and support other clinical areas such as surgery when required.
  • Demonstrate and apply specialist clinical pharmacy knowledge to plan, manage, monitor, and review drug therapy for patients.
  • Provide a comprehensive pharmaceutical service including prescription monitoring, drug information, evidence-based practice, and patient counselling.
  • Promote Pharmacy's active involvement within the multidisciplinary team, participate in ward rounds, influence prescribers, and recommend treatment changes where appropriate.
  • Help monitor and implement drug clinical guideline policies and coordinate pharmacy input to adult intensive care prescribing.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Prior hospital experience
  • Medical/surgical experience
  • Essential ICU experience
  • Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm or equivalent)
  • Registration with the GPhC
  • Strong clinical knowledge in pharmacotherapy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Commitment to professional development and staying current with research and practices
  • Experience in medication reviews and providing drug information
  • Knowledge of clinical guidelines and protocols
  • Experience in quality improvement initiatives and audits
