Overview

Band 7 Midwife - rotational midwife

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to lead one of our inpatient teams. The post requires an enthusiastic, committed midwife to join our established dynamic and forward thinking maternity team. The midwife will be a highly motivated practitioner with a vision to support women and families through their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. The post holder will be part of a team of highly trained, dedicated midwives with excellent organisational and communication skills. The midwife must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills, be a caring and compassionate individual focused on providing excellent quality care, working within the values held by Royal Free London NHS Trust.

Responsibilities
  • Take autonomous clinical decisions in an emergency to ensure safe outcomes for mother and baby.
  • Advanced practitioner with specialist knowledge, skills, competencies and experience, who can advise, mentor and train colleagues and students.
  • Competent in high level of physical skills for epidural management / top ups (inpatients), suturing, cannulation, and water births (across all services). Competent at home births when working in the community. Able to demonstrate competency in adult and newborn resuscitation.
  • Able to provide an environment where these skills are shared through teaching in partnership with the practice development midwife.
  • Able to demonstrate the skills of facilitation of normal birth, to include care for women in physiological labour.
  • Care for women’s emotional, spiritual and psychological needs.
  • Supporting labour with non-pharmacological pain relief i.e. use of water for labour and birth.
