Job description

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs for allpatients, ensuring appropriately planned care is both implemented andevaluatedTo provide specialist advice without direct supervision and to lead the multidisciplinaryteam in the absence of the Team LeaderTo assist in the leadership and development of an identified group ofpractitioners within the Department.

The post holder will comply with the NMC or HCPC Coded of Professionaland demonstrates knowledge and application of Departmental and Trustpolicies and procedures

Main duties of the job
  • Liaise with the Team Leader (or Theatre Co-ordinator) to ensure thatpatients are prepared for Theatre in reasonable time and are received in tothe Theatre department adhering to the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
  • Assist in the safe handling, transfer and positioning of patients between allareas of the theatre department;
  • Provide skilled assistance when participating in the administration ofinfusions, drugs, blood & blood products.
  • Liaise& communicate with other departments e.g. laboratory services,Sterile Services Unit
  • Ensure all that all Theatre equipment is checked as suitable for use prior toeach patients operation
  • To demonstrate clinical expertise in practice in own surgical speciality orspecialty group
  • To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and thedevelopment, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring highstandards of evidence based care using a defined model of care.
