Job description

Band 6 Clinical Team Lead

The closing date is 30 December 2025

There is one post on Shearwater PICU, a 7‑bed female psychiatric intensive care unit, which is the only female ICU within NHFT.

There is also a post on Sandpiper Female Acute Adult Mental Health ward.

The main role is to support patients in an acute stage of illness or those presenting with complex emotional needs.

The clinical team leader will lead and manage a team, ensuring high‑quality care is delivered while maintaining patient and staff safety and wellbeing. The role includes undertaking risk assessments, formulating decisions, participating in multidisciplinary care planning, communicating with wider professionals, and supporting staff development through supervision and appraisals.

The team leader will also support the ward manager, assist with administration, and be on call for the unit.

The role requires flexibility, personal resilience, ability to work under pressure, and empathy for individuals with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

Leads with professionalism and aligns with NHFT’s leadership behaviours and values.

• Lead, coordinate and support the team in clinical duties, ensuring delivery of high‑quality intensive support and care.
• Support the Ward Manager and Service Manager in management and administration of the unit.
• Encourage professional and personal development of staff.
• Support the team in working with service users to achieve recovery goals and improve quality of life.
• Participate in multidisciplinary assessment and admission of individuals to the ward, actively contributing to care and treatment planning and decision‑making.
• Assist the team in completing risk assessments and care planning around risk.
• Participate in the nominated Clinical Team Lead rota for the St. Mary’s Hospital site.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

• oRMN or RN Dip/HE (Mental Health) or RGN with 18 months Mental Health Inpatient experience.
• Post‑registration experience for 18 months minimum.
• Experience of Adult Acute inpatient nursing in the past 18 months.
• Previous experience in the supervision and assessment of students.
• Current experience of working at the Welland Centre.
• Extensive previous experience working with female patient groups.
