Job description

The Haematology Team at the Royal Free Hospital site is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Band 5 Registered Nurse to support ambulatory patient care within the Haematology Day Unit on the Planned Investigation Treatment Unit (PITU).

The post holder will play a key role in delivering high-standard care and supporting the continuous professional development of learners and junior staff in the clinical area.

The post holder will be accountable for their nursing practice, adhere to the policies and protocols of the Trust and the NMC, and be responsible for their own personal and professional development. They will liaise appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for all aspects of patient care, including the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
  • Support the Junior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
  • When the Junior Sister is absent, manage day‑to‑day operations of the Haematology Day Unit and oversee the Band 4 Associate Practitioner, assigning delegated tasks and responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Ensure a positive, patient‑focused service, incorporating patient feedback to maintain and improve care.
  • Act as an effective role model, promoting excellence through practice.
