Band 5 Paediatric Specialist Dental Nurse

Are you looking for a new and exciting position to support patient pathways and clinical excellence?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward‑thinking Specialist Dental Nurse to join the Birmingham Community Dental Nursing team. We are a multi‑disciplinary team that carry out a variety of different dental treatments under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality clinical nursing support across Dental Services Division sites and support clinical management of the dental specialty.
  • Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
  • Manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs and support recording of patient pre‑operative assessments (height, weight, blood pressure).
  • Stock control, rotation and ordering of dental consumables from appropriate suppliers.
  • Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.
  • Carry out any other duties relevant to this role as specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
  • Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.
  • Identify staff and students who require additional training within the specialty and escalated as appropriate.
  • Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.
  • Adhere to procedures to support and maintain achieving national targets of compliance, implement agreed local Divisional and Trust Policies, and implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.
Working Hours
  • 30.0 hours / 0.8 WTE – 12 months
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Flexible travel to other sites/locations within the division may be required.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Post-holder must hold a Dental Sedation Certificate (IHS) and be up to date with sedation training.
  • Must provide a copy of the CPD log relating to their sedation specialism.
  • Must be flexible to travel to other sites/locations within the division.
  • Experience in managing patients with complex dental, social and medical needs.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain accurate records for stock, equipment and patient assessments.
