Main duties of the job

We have 33 operating theatres between St George's and Queen Mary's Hospitals. Our staff work in teams and we are committed to keeping our focus on giving Outstanding Care, Every Time to our patients.

The main duties of this job role is to provide excellent nursing care. As skills and competencies develop, taking charge and actively participating in and contributing to the management of the theatre area or department on a regular basis.

• Setting, monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of nursing care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
• Ensuring that nursing procedures are carried out in accordance to Trust's policies
• As skills and competencies develop, taking charge and actively participating in and contributing to the management of the theatre area or on a regular basis.
• Supervising and mentoring junior staff.
• Working to support cardiothoracic theatres services including on-call commitment.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Clinical Experience & Training

• Registered Nurse (general) or Operating Department Practitioner
• A minimum of 6 months post registration experience in operating theatres.
• A minimum of 6 months clinical experience in Paediatric, Obstetrics and Gynaecology theatres
• Experience in robotic surgery.

Organisational Management

• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
• Ability to effectively prioritise workload and patient care needs.
• Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources
• Demonstrates an understanding of clinical risk
• Experience in Cerner iClip Surginet Perioperative documentation system.
• Ability to take charge of the ward in the absence of the theatre Nurse-in-charge (NIC) on a regular basis.
