Job description
Overview

We are an integrated team covering many aspects of community respiratory care, including the COPD Team, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Home Oxygen Service, Respiratory Virtual Ward and Breathlessness and Diagnostics service. We welcome overseas nurses through the Capital Nurse London consortium; please check eligibility and apply via the Capital Nurse London group. Responsibilities
  1. Promote effective self-management of patients or provide professional intervention for community management to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions, improve quality of life and identify patients who would benefit from case management.
  2. Contribute to both patient and professional education.
  3. Deliver a high level of respiratory care to COPD patients and other identified respiratory conditions.
  4. Perform and/or interpret ABG and CBG results for oxygen therapy assessment and review.
  5. Support/deliver the assessment and delivery of Pulmonary Rehabilitation after upskilling and/or provide sickness and holiday cover to this service.
  6. Support the delivery of the Respiratory Virtual Ward (RVW) which supports Admission Avoidance and Early Supported Discharge pathways; the service operates 7 days and requires weekend rostered cover.
  7. Support the Breathlessness and Diagnostics service by performing quality FeNO and ARTP-accredited Spirometry, with developing pathways and reviews as the service evolves.
  8. Participate in MDTs, teaching, supervision of junior staff and provide peer support.
  9. Support and deliver the Trust’s values and contribute to a collaborative and patient-centered culture.
What we offer and working pattern

We are a busy, fast-paced team operating in a changing landscape of Respiratory Care. In-house training is provided across the service with opportunities to upskill in nursing and therapy areas. The post is Monday–Friday 09:00–17:00 and Saturday–Sunday 09:00–15:00, on a 4-week or suitable rota once training and competency are signed off. The role may require flexibility and travel across South West Essex, including Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Wickford and Billericay.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be an Adult Nurse or Physiotherapist, with at least 2 years’ Band 5 experience including respiratory experience and management of complex respiratory presentations with co-morbidities. The role requires travel to clinic locations and home visiting across the patch.

Induction and probation

New starters join on the first Monday of each month and undergo a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory and systems training and equipment allocation, with opportunities to meet senior leaders. The induction will be conducted at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex. This post is subject to a probationary period.

Additional information

High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) applies: 5% of the basic salary (minimum £1,303 and maximum £2,198 per annum, pro rata for part-time).
