Band 3 Medical Secretary - Acute Medicine

To provide secretarial support to Consultants and their teams with particular responsibility for audio typing clinic letters, discharge summaries, general copy typing correspondence, minutes and reports. To provide administrative support to the department/Clinical Team.

The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers, undertaking work under the direction of the Medical Secretary Supervisor.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 3 Medical Secretary, you'll provide vital administrative support to clinical teams, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. Core responsibilities include managing patient correspondence, scheduling appointments, updating records, and handling telephone queries with professionalism and empathy. You'll liaise with multidisciplinary teams and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Daily expectations involve prioritising tasks in a fast-paced environment, using electronic systems efficiently, and delivering high-quality service to patients and staff. You'll be expected to work independently while contributing to team goals.

Essential skills include strong communication, attention to detail, time management, and proficiency in IT systems (e.g., MS Office, PICS, Ocean and other systems). We're looking for someone who is organised, compassionate, and committed to supporting patient care through excellent administrative service.
