Job description
Who we are

Apollo, a Skyward Group company, is an innovation‑inspired insurance platform operating at Lloyd’s of London, delivering data‑driven and creative solutions across a broad range of risks. Inspired by Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, Apollo was built with the same pioneering mindset. Since launch in 2009, we have grown into a diversified insurance group offering products across Property, Casualty, Marine, Energy and Transportation, Specialty and Reinsurance, Smart Follow and digital and embedded risk programmes. With a global team of more than 300 professionals, we continue to grow with purpose, combining underwriting excellence, innovation and collaboration to enable a more resilient and sustainable world.

Your Role

As an Aviation Underwriter, you will assess, price and underwrite aviation risks across a technically complex and specialist class of business. Working closely with the Head of Class and the wider underwriting team, you will shape portfolio performance, apply underwriting judgement and support strategy within the Aviation portfolio.

What You Will Do
  • Underwrite aviation risks in line with the Syndicate Business Plan, underwriting authority and guidelines, assessing, pricing and determining coverage across the portfolio. Monitor key underwriting KPIs and exposures, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and business plan objectives, and underwrite in accordance with the Aviation reinsurance programme. Actively participate in pre‑bind and post‑bind peer reviews, taking ownership of underwriting decisions.
  • Evaluate aviation insurance applications, considering all relevant risk factors and portfolio impact, and apply sound judgement when assessing complex and emerging aviation risks. Apply relevant pricing models, provide a clear rationale for pricing decisions and contribute to wording development where required to address new or evolving risks.
  • liaise closely with brokers, attend client meetings and presentations, and build strong working relationships with approved intermediaries and coverholders. Represent the business professionally within the Lloyd’s and wider insurance market, contributing to portfolio discussions and supporting the continued development of the Aviation class.
  • Ensure all business is underwritten in compliance with PRA, FCA and Lloyd’s regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures covering underwriting, pricing, delegated authority, Conduct and Consumer Duty. Maintain accurate underwriting records and provide management information and reporting to Underwriting Committees and senior stakeholders as required.
  • Work closely with Claims to capture learnings from losses and identify emerging risks within the Aviation portfolio. Complete mandatory training and maintain continuing professional development, supporting the ongoing development of underwriting capability, and provide guidance to underwriting assistants where appropriate.
What We Are Looking For
  • Underwriting experience within the Lloyd’s or London Market, with underwriting Aviation risks or demonstrable exposure to aviation or aerospace insurance.
  • Strong risk assessment skills, able to evaluate complex risks, understand portfolio impact and analyse underwriting, statistical and financial data to support well‑reasoned underwriting decisions aligned to risk appetite.
  • Solid understanding of underwriting authority, pricing models, reinsurance structures and policy wordings relevant to Aviation, and strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements, including Conduct and Consumer Duty.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders, able to present clearly, influence effectively, and manage challenging discussions.
  • Inquisitive, resilient, accountable, collaborative, and aligned with organisational values, demonstrating a genuine interest in contributing to an inclusive, high‑performing underwriting environment.
What you’ll get in return

A competitive reward package that reflects the value of our people, including a fair and attractive salary, discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package – 31 days’ annual leave, a non‑contributory pension and private medical insurance.
