Job summary

A specialist SEND school in Halesowen is seeking an Autism Learning Support Assistant to support children with Autism and learning difficulties. The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for working with SEND. This role offers 35 hours per week and the potential for a permanent position. Job Title: Autism Learning Support Assistant

Location: Halesowen

Hours: 35 hours per week (8:30am – 3:30pm)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Temporary (with potential for permanent placement)

The nurturing and inclusive school supports children and young people with autism spectrum condition, ADHD, and complex learning needs. The focus is on communication, independence, and emotional wellbeing. The school provides a personalised curriculum in a calm and structured environment.

We are currently seeking a compassionate and proactive Autism Learning Support Assistant to join their team. The role is great for someone with natural affinity with children and a desire to make a difference. Direct school experience is not essential; applicants with backgrounds in care work, support roles, youth services, psychology, or roles supporting vulnerable individuals are welcome. Transferable skills from education, healthcare, or social services are valued.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with Autism (ASC) and additional needs during lessons and school activities
  • Assist the class teacher and other support staff with day‑to‑day classroom running
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions tailored to individual learning styles
  • Help manage behaviour positively and consistently
  • Collect evidence of pupil progress to support assessment and planning
  • Promote independence, communication, and emotional regulation
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults (in any setting)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
  • Passion for supporting children with SEND
  • Knowledge of Makaton or sign language (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience with ASC, ADHD, or SEMH (desirable but not essential)
