Overview

As an Associate, you will be responsible for conducting fundamental investment research, assisting in building recommendations, implementing investment strategies, and monitoring and managing portfolio investments. You may also support the identification, scoping, and implementation of value creation opportunities by conducting research, analysis, and preparing presentations.

Responsibilities
  • Compile industry, market and asset level data and financial information to support research
  • Perform fundamental research and present research ideas to broader group
  • Develop company financial models and perform valuation analyses; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisions
  • Assist in the due diligence of opportunities, including financial, company and sector diligence
  • Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment rationales and due diligence reviews
  • Assist Investment and internal partners in the preparation of ongoing and ad-hoc investment performance reporting
  • Monitor ongoing financial and risk performance of portfolio assets
  • Update financial models and other analytical tools to support the idea generation process and rationale behind changes in investment view
  • Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of existing portfolios, including capital commitments and distributions
  • Support transition of new assets into CPPIB portfolio by identifying benchmarks, building financial models and providing rigorous project management support
  • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., Finance & Operations) to support investment management
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in relevant field
  • An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset
  • Commensurate relevant work experience
  • Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Experience working in deal environments including supporting acquisitions, diligence and/or asset management activities, with a demonstrated focus on real estate
  • Advanced computer/technical skills - MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • European language skills are an asset
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
