Overview

Associate Electrical Engineer in Birmingham. Salary up to £70,000 + Benefits. A leading building services consultancy is seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to join their expanding MEP team in Birmingham. This is a key leadership position within a 15-strong Birmingham MEP team, supported by 25 colleagues across Manchester and Scotland. The role offers the chance to lead diverse and technically challenging projects while playing a pivotal part in the long-term growth of the division. The position is ideal for an ambitious engineer with the ability to combine project delivery, business development, and team leadership, with a clear pathway towards a future Divisional Director role.

Projects

The consultancy delivers a wide-ranging portfolio of projects, including:

  • Education - schools and higher education facilities
  • Residential - local housing and mixed-use developments
  • Contractor-led schemes - working directly with Tier 1 contractors on stage 4/5 projects
  • Decarbonisation projects - including significant schemes for the Crown Estate
  • Unique and specialist developments - such as community buildings and places of worship

Projects are frequently delivered in collaboration with the consultancy's in-house civil, structural, and geotechnical teams, creating a fully integrated, multidisciplinary approach.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead MEP projects and project teams, ensuring delivery to the highest technical and client standards
  • Manage risk, scope, and appointments with strong commercial awareness
  • Act as the lead electrical engineer, developing concepts through to detailed design
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, supporting career progression within the team
  • Attend project and technical meetings, liaising with architects, contractors, and other consultants
  • Produce reports, drawings, and specifications across various RIBA design stages
  • Utilise design tools such as CAD, BIM (Revit), Dialux/Relux, and other software packages
  • Play an active role in business development and client relationship management to support growth of the Birmingham office
What you\'ll need
  • Extensive experience in electrical building services design, ideally within a consultancy environment
  • Proven ability to lead project delivery across multiple sectors
  • Strong project management skills and commercial acumen
  • Experience in managing and mentoring engineers at different levels
  • Excellent client-facing skills with proven business development capability
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical/Building Services Engineering (accredited where possible)
  • IEng/CEng status, or actively working towards professional registration
