Job description

Veterinary Record Case Reports is inviting applications for the role of Associate Editor

Veterinary Record Case Reports aims to publish case reports in all disciplines as an educational resource so that veterinary professionals, researchers, and others can easily find important information on both common and rare conditions. The journal is published by Wiley on behalf of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) whose other journals include Vet Record, In Practice and Vet Record Open.

You can find more information here.

The Role

Associate Editors work closely with the Editor in helping to steer and manage the journal, playing an active role in journal development. The key responsibility as an Associate Editor will be managing the lifecycle of a paper through the peer review process. This includes:

  • Agreeing to oversee manuscripts in their areas of expertise
  • Identifying suitable referees for such manuscripts, reviewing referees’ comments, acting as a reviewer when needed, and providing feedback to authors, overseeing an effective, ethical and timely peer review process
  • Make recommendations on a manuscript’s suitability for publication to the Editor-in-Chief
  • Ensuring the quality and soundness of case reports published in the journal, by considering their compliance with ethical standards of clinical practice, and the relevance of the case reports to the journal’s aim and scope
  • Promoting the journal within relevant networks
  • Liaising with authors, reviewers, the Editor-in-Chief and the Publisher to achieve these goals.

This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in the development and management of a clinical journal with a global profile. We welcome applications from veterinary clinicians who are passionate about shaping and developing clinical practice and building broad professional networks and communities in their field.

We are committed to supporting a broad range of specialisms and we strongly encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, to ensure a representation of varied perspectives. We will consider applications from colleagues at all career stages, but we envisage this role will suit an ambitious mid-career clinician looking to consolidate their position as a leader in their field.

What we Require

Veterinary Record Case Reports publishes cases in all areas of veterinary medicine and surgery, and so would welcome applicants with expertise in a variety of topic areas. However, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who specialise in any of the following areas: veterinary dermatology, veterinary emergency and critical care, veterinary neurology, veterinary oncology, small animal medicine, small animal soft tissue surgery, veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, veterinary cardiology, and zoo/wildlife medicine.

Ideal candidates will have a strong record of publication in journals of good standing in the area of Veterinary Medicine and/or related fields.

Sufficient experience as a reviewer in refereed academic journals is required, and editorial experience either as an Associate Editor and/or special issue editor is desirable but not essential.

To apply, please submit your application via this form. If you have any queries about the role, please contact editorrecruitment@wiley.com

The application deadline is 31st March 2026.

This vacancy may close earlier than the advertised deadline if a high volume of applications is received. Early applications are therefore encouraged.
