The Cost Consultancy team is responsible for delivering cost advice on some of the UK's most strategically important projects. The Quantity Surveying team provides high-quality cost advice on both capital and whole-life costs of buildings, with an increasing focus on carbon reduction. With a focus on residential, Build to Rent, PBSA and similar, they want an Associate Director who can help them to win and deliver work in the West Midlands.

Associate Director - Quantity Surveyor Role

Due to continued success, they are seeking an Associate Director to lead and grow the commercial team in the West Midlands, based in the Birmingham office. Reporting directly to the Regional Director, you will become an integral part of a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team, utilising the latest technology to deliver cost advice to design colleagues and clients. You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of large residential projects, managing the commercial team in the West Midlands, and supporting the operational side of the business. This role requires frequent delivery of technical excellence, promoting learning opportunities across the team, and supporting the professional development of others. You will oversee a group of Cost Managers working on existing residential projects, while also assisting with growth in the property sector. There is a strong opportunity to develop this position as a respected and trusted advisor, playing a key role in an important growth initiative within the Project & Cost Management business unit.

Responsibilities
  • Leading and managing a team of Cost Managers
  • Acting as Employer's Agent and/or Contract Administrator across a variety of projects in residential, advanced manufacturing, aviation, and other private sectors
  • Leading all aspects of Cost Management
  • Supporting business development and business planning activities
  • Developing cost plans for complex projects using CostX estimating software
  • Advising design teams on the cost implications of alternative design solutions
  • Monthly P&L reporting
  • Leading value engineering and risk workshops, providing strategic cost advice
  • Advising clients on procurement strategy
  • Delivering the full range of construction-stage cost management services
  • Building strong relationships with design colleagues, client stakeholders, and contractors
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to complete SC-level security clearance upon appointment (to support defence-related work)
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Full membership of RICS or CIOB, or 10+ years' experience in a specialist subject area
  • Experience using CostX or similar estimating software, ideally with Revit models
  • Experience working on major projects valued at £50m+
  • Ideally experienced in cost management under NEC3/4 and JCT contracts
  • Strong communication skills, including leading cost reporting meetings with senior client representatives
  • Proven leadership capability and a collaborative approach to working with large technical teams
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to deliver to deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Project, and Word
