Assistant Transport Manager

MCS Group is proud to be working with an established business providing high-quality services across the Healthcare and Hospitality sectors is seeking an Assistant Transport Manager to support the Transport Manager in ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective operation of transport activities.

This is a hands-on role that requires strong leadership, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to drive continuous improvement within transport operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the day-to-day organisation and efficiency of the Transport Department
  • Assist with operational planning, rota management, and driver scheduling
  • Manage and support drivers, including recruitment, coaching, and performance management
  • Oversee vehicle checks, compliance, cleanliness, and safety across the fleet
  • Liaise with maintenance contractors and monitor fleet performance
  • Ensure compliance with all Ministry of Transport and VOSA legislation
  • Contribute to vehicle purchasing decisions and disposals
  • Work with the Transport Manager to optimise route planning and scheduling
  • Deliver and maintain safe systems of work, including compliance and manual handling training
  • Monitor departmental budgets and control costs in collaboration with senior management
What You Will Need
  • Proven experience in transport or logistics management
  • Strong knowledge of transport legislation and compliance (VOSA regulations essential)
  • Experience managing drivers, rotas, and transport operations
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
  • Full, clean UK driving licence required
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and service excellence
