Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be employed by Changing Futures North East and will work into the Alliance led Mental Health Support Team, alongside a wider team of practitioners. The Assistant Education Mental Health Practitioner (AEMHP) is an active member of the team working with others to support the delivery of mental health and emotional wellbeing activities and to deliver positive outcomes for children, young people and their families.

The post holder will deliver a range of delegated activities as part of a multidisciplinary team to support children, young people and their families by offering age-appropriate information and advice on a range of emotional health, lifestyle and behaviour related issues. The role will deliver alongside the more senior members of the team delivering Care Planning Meetings, Whole School Approach, Training and Group Work.

The successful candidate must be willing to complete the postgraduate Education Mental Health Practitioner qualification if and when a space is available at a suitable university.

Job responsibilities

Work with the Chief Executive and your Managers to ensure that they receive appropriate advice and information on all relevantmatters thus enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities, and toeffectively monitor plans and targets.

Be supervised,supported, and assessed in the delivery of outcome focused, evidence-basedinterventions in educational settings to children and young people experiencingmild to moderate mental health difficulties.

Developing skills insupporting children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mentalhealth difficulties and their families and educators in the self-management ofpresenting difficulties.

Developing andpracticing skills under supervisory support of working in partnership withchildren, young people, their families, and educators in the development oftreatment plans for specific interventions.

Developing andlearning the skills required to enable children and young people in educationto collaborate and coproduce their own agreed plan of care.

Show evidence in avariety of forms that interventions are provided from an inclusive values base,which recognises and respects diversity.

Discuss withsupervisors and agree to accept appropriate referrals for children and youngpeople in educational settings, according to agreed referral routes, processes,and procedures.

Under supervision,undertake accurate assessments of risk to self and others.

Learn, understand,rationalise, and adhere to the policies and protocols within the organisationand the educational service to which the postholder is attached.

Engage along withmore senior staff in the signposting of referrals for children and young peoplewith more complex needs to the relevant service.

Engage in robustmanagerial and clinical supervision, identifying the scope of practice of theindividual postholder within the role, and working safely within that scope.

Gain and practice arange of interventions related to the provision of information and support forevidence based psychological treatments, primarily guided self-help.

Practice, evidenceand demonstrate an ability to manage ones own caseload in conjunction with therequirements of the team.Attendmulti-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings relating to referrals for childrenand young people in treatment.

Keep coherent recordsof all training and clinical activity in line with service protocols and usethese records and outcome data to inform decision making.

Complete allrequirements relating to data collection.

Show evidence ofworking within a collaborative approach, involving a range of relevant otherswhen indicated.

Specifically, work in collaboration with teachers and othereducational staff, parents, children, young people and the wider community toenhance and broaden access to mental health services.

Contribute to thedevelopment of individual or group clinical materials or training materials andgo on to develop further such materials as falls within own degree ofcompetence.

Trainingand supervision

Once a training placebecomes available you will attend and fulfil all the requirements of thetraining element of the post including practical, academic, and practice-basedassessments.

As well as attendanceat the University for training, fulfil private study requirements to enhancelearning and prepare assignments for examination, for at least one day a week.

Apply learning fromthe training programme directly to practice through the course.

Receive practicetutoring from educational providers in relation to course work to meet therequired standards.

Prepare and presentcase load information to supervisors within the service on an agreed andscheduled basis, to ensure safe practice and the governance obligations of thetrainee, supervisor, and service.

Engage in and respondto personal development supervision to improve competences and practice.Be involved in theevaluation of the course.

Professional

Ensure themaintenance of standards of own professional practice according to both thepostholders employer and the Higher Education Institution in which they areenrolled.

Ensure appropriateadherence to any new recommendations or guidelines set by the relevantdepartments.

Ensure thatconfidentiality is always protected.

Ensure that any risksor issues related to the safety and wellbeing of anyone the postholder comesinto contact within the course of their professional duties are communicatedand shared with appropriate parties, in order to maintain individual safety andthe public interest.

Ensure clearobjectives are identified, discussed, and reviewed with supervisor and seniorcolleagues on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.

Participate inindividual performance review and respond to agreed objectives.
