JOIN OUR TEAM! Assistant Clerk - Sandwich Town Council

Location: The Guildhall, Sandwich
Hours: 30 Hours per week (includes some evenings & weekends) hours to be agreed at interview stage.
Contract: 6 Months, Temporary to Permanent Position
Salary: £12.55 - £13.00 per hour

Sandwich Town Council is on the lookout for an organised, creative, and enthusiastic Assistant Clerk to join our small, friendly team at the heart of one of England's most historic towns.

This is a varied and rewarding role supporting the Town Clerk, Responsible Finance Officer, and Property Manager - perfect for someone with a passion for planning events, a knack for communication, and a drive to make things happen.

Please note: some evening & weekend working will also be required, particularly during the busy wedding season and around Christmas events. This may initially be limited to one or two days before Christmas but is likely to increase in peak periods.

Your Role Will Include:

Guildhall Events & Bookings

  • Manage venue bookings for weddings, meetings, and events
  • Liaise with clients, prepare paperwork, and provide on-the-day event support
  • Help promote the Guildhall as a unique community and event space
  • Bring fresh ideas to help increase usage and visibility

Marketing & Promotion

  • Assist in creating promotional content for events and venue hire
  • Manage or support social media posts, local advertising, and listings
  • Help grow awareness of council-led initiatives and activities

Council Support

  • Support the Town Clerk with preparing agendas, taking minutes, and maintaining records
  • Attend evening meetings when needed

Allotment Administration

  • Oversee tenancy agreements, waiting lists, and communication with plot holders
