Job description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for you to use and develop your psychological skills and experience working with men with psychological and mental difficulties and forensic histories at Langdon Hospital. As a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist you will work as part of a psychology team to provide specialist psychological interventions to the patients at Langdon Hospital and to develop your clinical and forensic assessment and therapy skills. There are opportunities to work with a range of psychological issues including trauma, psychosis and personality difficulties alongside risk issues. The service offers a range of therapeutic approaches in order to address the presenting needs of the patients.

You will be using your experience for forensic mental health settings to support the development of Assistant Psychologists within the department and will take a role in leadership on key projects within the department alongside members of the psychology team.

Responsibilities
  • The principal purpose of the role is to improve the psychological health & wellbeing of people with mental health difficulties within Secure Services.
  • Provide a psychology and psychological therapies service to service users at Langdon Hospital as a key component of integrated mental health and wellbeing services to Devon Partnership Trust.
  • Implement specific assessment, clinical care and psychological interventions and provide advice and consultancy to patients, family members, carers and professionals under the supervision and management of the Professional Lead.
  • Be supported by senior colleagues within Langdon Hospital and make use of the expertise of others within the service to further develop clinical skills with this client group.
  • To work independently within a defined managed and occupational context and to work within professional guidelines and Devon Partnership Trust procedures and protocols.
  • To support qualified members of the psychology team with the development of training programmes and have some involvement in the delivery of elements of training programmes under supervision.
  • To provide support and guidance to Band 4 psychologists including supporting their induction into the service and holding meetings.
