Qualifications

Assistant Practitioner - Lung Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our well-established Lung Nurse Team.

You will assist the Clinical Nurse Specialists to implement Holistic Care Needs Assessments and care for patients affected by Lung Cancer from pre-diagnosis to transition to palliative care.

The post holder will be required to work with senior staff to support and ensure that the patient and carer experience is central to every stage of their care pathway.

The lung team offer clinical, social and emotional support using a holistic approach to each patient and their families.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a confident and dynamic team member with excellent communication skills and an in quality improvement and service developments. The successful candidate will be a key support for the team, patients and their families

The right candidate will help deliver high standards of specialist cancer care for patients with cancer across DBTH.

The role will provide the opportunity to develop your knowledge and education in lung cancer.

  • Must be a qualified NA or AP as this is a Band 4 registered position.
  • Minimum of 2 year experience, working in a hospital setting as a Healthcare Assistant or equivalent e.g. Therapy Assistant In date statutory essential training
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team in health/social care setting
  • Previous experience of mentoring/supporting junior colleagues
  • Previous experience in any of the following areas: Endoscopy, Acute Medical Unit, Accident and Emergency, Department of Critical Care, Ophthalmics, Theatres, Clinical Therapy or equivalent, Cancer Services
  • Evidence of involvement in service improvement or specific areas of interest/expertise e.g. link person/champion for area
Qualifications & Training
  • Applicants must be 19 years of age or above
  • Functional Skills level 2 English and Maths
  • To commence trainee programme requires level 2 Qualification eg NVQ level 2 or QCF level 2 in Health and Social Care
  • To undertake the full role requires qualification of level 5 Assistant Practitioner Higher Apprenticeship with Foundation Degree within 24 months full-time training period
  • Completed Care Certificate
  • Minimum of C grade GCSE or equivalent English and Maths
  • Evidence of undertaking level 3 study or above
