We now have an opportunity for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join the Financial Reporting and Accounting team. This is a key role in the Financial Accounting team reporting to the Financial Accountant with the principal objective of supporting the Financial Accountant and Financial Controller to deliver robust, timely, accurate management and financial information, improve ledger integrity and accounting control with specific responsibility for own tasks and deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining the Prepayment register, processing the monthly releases journal, liaising with the AP team regarding any queries in relation to values and evidencing year end prepayments. To include the posting of any associated journals.
- Maintaining the Accruals register, processing the monthly journals in relation to additions and releases and reviewing balances being held at year end. Liaising with the AP team to identify accruals needed as part of month end and year end cut off. To include the posting of any associated journals.
- Preparation of operational provisions the assistant account is responsible for and reporting of the monthly movements between BU's/Brands. To include the posting of any associated journals.
- Responsible for carrying out the weekly review of general ledger postings to ensure any posting errors are captured and corrected but also any accruals/prepayments are actioned accordingly in advance of month end. To include the posting of any associated journals.
- Preparation of the monthly budget holder cost reports, ensuring that these are accurate and any queries on analysis can be answered.
- Preparation of the control account reconciliations assigned to the assistant financial accountant to ensure we are operating with strong financial controls. Will develop an understanding of the control account reconciliations to include highlighting any potential issues identified and raising as necessary with the Financial Controller/Group Financial Controller.
- Working with other teams e.g. AP to improve ledger integrity, monthly accounting processes and financial and regulatory control
- Supporting the Financial Accountant in the production and delivery of the monthly and annual Trial Balance to the Financial Controller and assisting with the relevant analysis, schedules, variance analysis and commentary on key movements
- In conjunction with the Financial Accountant, having ownership and delivery of the external reporting including payment practices report and ONS surveys.
- Supporting the Financial Accountant and Financial Controller in the annual audit process
- To provide additional ad hoc financial reporting support as required by the Financial Controller and Financial Accountant to meet the needs of the business
Qualifications
- AAT qualified or Part qualified with one of the following qualifications (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
- At least one year in a similar core accounting role
- Comfortable working across a number of IT platforms, intermediate to advanced experience in Excel is essential
