Job description

A long-established business is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its finance team and support the smooth running of day‑to‑day accounting activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with finance experience who is looking to take the next step in their career in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Management Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with monthly management accounts preparation
• Maintaining the purchase and sales ledgers
• Posting journals, accruals and prepayments
• Bank reconciliations
• Assisting with costings and stock analysis
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes
• Preparing VAT returns
• Assisting with year‑end processes and audit queries
• Providing general support to the finance team as required

About You

We're looking for someone who is proactive, accurate and enjoys working as part of a small, collaborative team.

• Experience in a similar finance or assistant accountant role
• Strong Excel skills and good working knowledge of accounting systems
• AAT qualification or currently studying (preferred)
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
• A willingness to assist with both routine tasks and more complex finance work
