Job description
Assessing Children’s Social Worker

Team: Fostering, Provider Services

Location: Trafford

Pay Rate: £35

Office Use: 000A 7A10 / 1

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Fostering Service that sits within Provider Services, ensuring that our cared for children have loving, stable and high-quality homes to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

There are three distinctive teams within the Fostering Service: Recruitment and Assessment Team, Mainstream Supervising Social Worker Team and Connected Carers/SGO Support Team. You will be working in the Recruitment and Assessment Team with the following roles and responsibilities:

Undertaking Form F assessments of potential mainstream carers to assess their suitability, which involves face to face assessment sessions, obtaining and interviewing references, conducting statutory checks and producing high quality assessments.

Undertaking Connected Person assessments of potential connected carers to assess their suitability, which involves face to face assessment sessions, obtaining and interviewing references, conducting statutory checks and producing high quality assessments.

Having an understanding of permanency planning for children and young people when undertaking assessments.

  • Attendance at care planning meetings, legal gateway meetings and cared for children review meetings and any other meeting relevant to the role.
  • Attendance at fostering panel as an assessor to present the assessment (which is face to face).
  • Attendance at Court maybe required in relation to assessments.
  • Undertake duty regularly. This entails undertaking viability assessments, regulation 24 assessments and identifying foster placements for children and young people.
  • Delivering Skills to Foster which requires evening and weekend work.
  • Working closing with the GM Hub and supporting with Recruitment events. This may include evening and weekend work.
  • Attendance of team meetings and whole service meetings.
  • Be part of working groups to support the development of Provider Services.
  • Work closely with the children’s social work teams.
  • Liaise and work with the Practice Managers and the Advanced Practitioners within the Service to maintain and enhance good quality social work practice which delivers the maximum impact to consistently improve outcomes for children and young people.
