The post is advertised at 37 hours per week and based at Sandhurst, a world-renowned leadership academy with a global network of collaboration.

You would have the opportunity to participate in applied academic work on field training exercises across Europe and deliver academic courses to military audiences worldwide. The role involves preparing and delivering teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, focusing on how humans operate in the complex environment of modern warfare and the role of leadership, behavioural and social sciences in developing agile leaders. The CABS syllabus aims to provide practical insights and techniques for personal leadership and awareness of others.

  • Deliver leadership, behavioural science, psychology, sociology, conflict resolution and defence studies content in applied settings at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Conduct research in relevant subjects and publish outcomes; contribute to the academic life of the department.
  • Engage in personal and professional development, with potential support for doctoral studies, teaching qualifications, and research sabbaticals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in overseas lecturing, conferences, and workshops within Defence.
Qualifications
  • Post-graduate qualification (PhD) in Leadership and Management, Behavioural Science, Psychology, Sociology, Conflict Resolution/Conflict Studies, Defence/Military Studies; or a Masters with equivalent experience in a leadership or behavioural/social sciences role.
  • Ability to deliver leadership, behavioural and social psychology teaching in applied settings at postgraduate and/or undergraduate levels, with a willingness to apply this in a military context.
  • Ability to conduct research and publish outcomes; strong self-motivation for professional and personal administration.
  • Excellent communication skills; willingness to provide academic support tasks (e.g., overseas lecturing, conferences, workshops within Defence).
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and willingness to expand expertise beyond current specialism.
  • Desirable: Teaching qualification with a view to working towards a Level 7 qualification.
Benefits and Working Environment
  • Flexible working where possible to support work/life balance.
  • Access to on-site gym, swimming pool, and sporting facilities; onsite restaurants and coffee shops.
  • Support for personal development, including potential for doctoral studies, research sabbaticals, and access to a first-class onsite library.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and a range of leave and travel opportunities; UK taxpayer-funded Civil Service Pension scheme (defined benefit).
  • On-site parking and extensive campus facilities including 271 acres of parkland, historic buildings, a museum, a library, cafés, fishing, and social activities.
