One of the UK's leading manufacturers of gearboxes, geared motors, servos, drive technology and drive automation. The company is a global leading manufacturer with a multi‑billion turnover. Full product training and career progression opportunities are available in commercial or technical roles.

The Role

Area Sales Manager – Automation & Motion Control, covering the West Midlands. The role involves visiting customers, quoting, building solutions and closing orders. The manager will be responsible for motor and gearbox selections, as well as associated automation equipment such as servos, PLCs and other components. Applications engineering and commercial/sales tasks will be project‑driven and sales will range from £100‑£1 million with a target of £1‑2 million. 40% of the role will focus on new business and 60% on existing business.

Responsibilities
  • Visiting customers and identifying new opportunities
  • Developing and presenting complete solutions
  • Coordinating motor and gearbox selections with applications engineering
  • Driving project‑based sales and closing orders
  • Managing a portfolio that includes servos, motors, mechatronics and inverter technology
  • Maintaining existing relationships and achieving sales targets

Qualifications
  • Technical background – experience in tools, maintenance, project engineering, applications engineering, design or service engineering
  • Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, Automation Engineering – apprenticeship or formal qualification)
  • Knowledge of servo systems, PLCs, planetary gearboxes, inverters and motor/gearbox sizing and selection
  • Experience of engineering a solution and closing sales
  • Computer literacy – proficiency with configurators for sizing and selection
  • Hard‑working, driven, hungry, extrovert and personable
  • Preferred: prior sales experience or a technical person seeking a sales career
