Overview

To be responsible for the professional and managerial leadership of the Acute medical nursing team, demonstrating a supportive and flexible leadership approach and a proactive, responsible attitude so as to promote confidence in the team and the service to patients, other professionals and commissioners. To provide expert knowledge and leadership in the continuing and progressive development of the acute medicine service. The postholder will be the lead Acute medicine nurse responsible for adult safeguarding policies and training in conjunction with the Acute medical education Team. To be responsible for the delivery of the model of acute medical nursing care in order to improve the patient's experience and multi-disciplinary working. To embed existing and create further pathways in order to improve the service offered to our patients encompassing the Acute Medical Units, Same Day Emergency Care and Acute Assessment Unit, working with the Emergency Department and other same day services. To be part of the senior nursing structure within the acute medical team and supporting the Urgency, Emergency and Acute Medicine (UEAM) speciality contribute to the overall upholding of emergency care performance targets through performance in Acute medicine pathways.

  • To assist in the resolution of any conflicts within the clinical area, resolving informal complaints locally and assisting in the investigation of and response to formal complaints as required.
  • Responsible for appraisal and personal development of the Acute Medical nursing team. To act as a coach and mentor for relevant members of staff.
  • To investigate accidents and adverse incidents; identify and implement corrective action where necessary. To contribute to the wider Acute medicine and UEAM governance framework.
  • To take responsibility for the devolved budget and monitor expenditure within the agreed limit.
