Job description
Advisory & Consulting - Monitoring Trustee Graduate Trainee - Birmingham - September 2026

The role of a Consultant is to support the team through all aspects of the project lifecycle: from winning assignments through project planning, information gathering, exploration of relevant compliance issues, financial and/or legal analysis and preparation of deliverables including drafting official reports. You will be also involved in non-client activities such as broader business development, internal projects and research initiatives.

We operate a hybrid working model, so as a consultant you will split your time between the office and working from home, in line with the team's policy.

We will support you to develop the knowledge and skills required for the role, including a strong understanding of (i) monitoring trustee services, (ii) the monitoring of behavioural and structural remedies and (iii) a variety of industries. We will also guide you to develop an appropriate communication style for our role.

As a Consultant, you will support more senior members of the team on client projects which involve monitoring parties' compliance with commitments offered to competition authorities in the UK, EU and globally.

When you first join us, typically your responsibilities will include:

  • attend, and produce records of, internal and external meetings;
  • support client onboarding activities; and

In addition, you will contribute to non-chargeable work in the team, including client proposals and business development opportunities.

Your mix of work will depend on the demands of the team's current assignments and your own background and skillset (for example, your understanding of legal and / or financial aspects). You may, for example, contribute to the assessment of business plans, cash flow models, valuations and monthly financial performance against budget to determine and monitor the operational health of businesses. Equally, you may be involved in legal research and analysis, to support the team to reach views and make recommendations as part of our monitoring.

In due course, you can expect to take on more responsibility on projects and begin to assume core roles in project workstreams. As you progress you will lead project workstreams and drive forward project deliverables. Your drafting responsibilities will also increase, extending to the development of report conclusions and recommendations. In addition, you will contribute to more complex financial and / or legal analysis, depending on your skillset. You will develop project management capabilities and have more client contact. You will mentor new and more junior team members, helping them to settle in and flourish.

The level of your responsibilities will be driven by your ability, your on-the-job performance and your motivation. For our part, we will equip you with the tools, guidance and opportunities to develop and succeed.

Learning and development

Our supportive culture includes coaching, mentorship, and one-on-one guidance to help you grow, belong and make an impact. You will be allocated a buddy before joining who will support you to settle into the team and navigate your first year at Forvis Mazars.
