Job description
Advisor (10-month fixed term maternity cover)

This role can be based at either Chelmsford, Writtle or Cambridge campuses.

Union are looking to recruit a part-time Advisor to join our team, for a 10-month fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave. You'll join our established team, providing information and support to students on a range of academic and welfare issues.

What you will be doing

  • Providing independent advice, support and guidance to ARU students via email and MS Teams calls.
  • Interpreting and applying university policy and procedure when providing advice to students.
  • Advocating on behalf of and represent students as required at formal and informal University meetings including disciplinary, fitness to practice and academic misconduct panels.
  • Communicating effectively with students, executive officers, Union and University staff on behalf of students.
  • Maintaining up to date, accurate and orderly computerised client records.
  • Participating in casework review, peer mentoring and supervision meetings to ensure best practice.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience of delivering advice, information and support to students on university policy process.
  • Experience in handling sensitive and confidential information, raising concerns via the correct channels where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of key issues affecting students in higher education.
  • A non-judgemental approach to students.
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative.

Skills that will help you

  • Excellent organisational skills and able to prioritise work.
  • A calm and professional approach when working under pressure.
  • Skilled at building effective working relationships.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office packages and Case Management systems e.g MSL Case Manager or Advice Pro.

You can choose to be based on either the Chelmsford, Writtle or Cambridge campuses.
