Band 7 Advanced Specialist Clinical Lead Dietitian
Eating Disorders Service, Kinver Ward

Are you looking for the next step in your career? If you are an experienced Dietitian who is interested in leading dietetic services in eating disorder services read on. This role provides clinical leadership and expert specialist dietetic knowledge across the Adult Eating Disorder Services.

The post offers the opportunity to provide clinical expertise within the Specialist Eating Disorder Unit (SEDU), The Kinver Centre, Day Treatment Services and Community Outpatient services. The successful candidate will be a source of expertise on dietary management to a multi-disciplinary team and will work with other health professionals and external partners as required. HCPC registered dietitians with relevant mental health and eating disorder experience are invited to apply.

Main duties

To provide autonomous and comprehensive dietetic assessments, treatment plans and interventions within the specialist Adult Eating Disorder Services. To lead clinically in areas of expertise as part of the multi-disciplinary team. To work in a co-produced partnership with people who use our services, including individualised treatment plans and service developments to improve patient experience and recovery. To develop and educate others; lead service redesign and development of research‑led services; and manage the dietetic service in a cost‑effective, safe, quality‑focused manner.

To collaborate with the catering team to ensure meal plans are understood and accurate, and to contribute to the organisation-wide food and drink strategy. To work with the wider organisation to support integration of services.

Responsibilities
  • Organise, provide and manage dietetic care for adults diagnosed with eating disorders receiving MDT care (inpatient and related services).
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individual or group dietary plans; provide ongoing support to patients and carers as appropriate.
  • Utilise anthropometric techniques and interpret complex clinical data to inform care.
  • Lead on collaborative, motivational interviewing and CBT-based approaches to support adherence; translate complex information for patients, carers and health professionals.
  • Organise prescriptions for enteral feeds and oral nutritional supplements.
  • Provide dietetic input to MDT meetings, ward reviews and case conferences; develop reports for internal CPA documents and external agencies.
  • Advise on equipment; refer to other health professionals as needed.
  • Lead carers groups and develop educational resources for carers.
  • Build partnerships across acute physical health providers; provide training and support transfer of high‑risk patients.
  • Record all interventions in line with team and organisational policies; maintain professional accountability and manage risk.
  • Work effectively as part of the Eating Disorders Dietetic Team and the wider MDT; extend role with appropriate training and competency assessment.
  • Maintain knowledge of prescribable oral nutritional supplements, enteral feeds, feeding pumps and ancillaries; training to offer supplementary prescribing may be pursued.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the wider Eating Disorders MDT; review evidence-based research and national guidance and implement in practice.
  • Regularly review dietary and MDT education resources; seek additional funding and manage projects; develop and audit standards of practice and care pathways.
  • Develop and monitor outcome measures and quality indicators; initiate and deliver specialist training and education programmes.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with local, regional and national clinical specialist groups; utilise software packages (Nutritics, RIO, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Identify opportunities for service development and contribute to annual business planning; provide written and verbal reports and lead projects.
  • Management duties include recruitment/selection, budget, absence monitoring, clinical supervision and peer review; support personal objective setting and professional portfolio maintenance.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Leadership qualification or training
  • Current pre-registration student training
  • Postgraduate training in mental health/eating disorders
  • Postgraduate BDA studies in accredited dietetics

Desirable

  • Training in area of specialism or therapy skills (e.g. Eating Disorders, Mental Health, CBT or Motivational Interviewing/Behaviour Change)
  • Attendance at relevant Special Interest Groups (e.g. Mental Health Group)

Experience

  • Experience/interest in working with eating disorders
  • Experience of assessment and management of specialist dietetic interventions in hospital and outpatient settings
  • Extensive postgraduate experience in dietetic mental health and managing eating disorder risks
  • Experience of managing complex caseloads and prioritising time
  • Experience of working with service users, families and carers
  • Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork, negotiation and conflict management
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting to varied audiences
  • Extensive experience leading, developing and supervising others
  • Experience in clinical audit, project management and research and development
