Overview

The Estates department at Royal Lancaster Infirmary is a group of highly skilled electrical and mechanical engineers, creative building craft persons, and dedicated support staff. We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic person to join us.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance work within acute and community NHS properties on heating and pressure systems, ventilation, air conditioning, steam production, medical gases, and other healthcare related mechanical services.
  • Work under the Mechanical Team Leader and, as part of a team or individually, contribute to safe and efficient services with patient and staff safety at the heart of focus.
  • Self-motivate, work relatively unsupervised, and communicate effectively on all levels.
  • Flexible working to assist other trades and undertake other tasks to maintain building services.
Qualifications and Background
  • Experienced, time served and suitably qualified in mechanical fitting or vehicle mechanical maintenance and fault finding.
  • A mechanical fitting/manufacturing/plumbing background, particularly within healthcare, would be advantageous but not essential, as specific training will be provided.
  • Vehicle mechanics/technicians have also been found to excel in this role—the principles are very similar.

This post is based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Lancaster.

Organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe. FGH and the RLI provide General Hospital services with Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides General Hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and other facilities. A range of planned care and diagnostics are provided, including outreach services from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
