Advanced Biomedical Scientist - Biochemistry
London, HCA Laboratories (Shropshire House)
Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Shifts: 7.5 hour shifts Monday-Friday with weekend rota participation also required
Permanent
Salary: Competitive with weekend work paid as overtime

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Biomedical Scientist in Biochemistry to join our team. You will provide a high-quality and comprehensive 24-hour pathology service for laboratory users, working as a team member within Biochemistry and bringing any problems which may affect the provision of the service to the attention of the Service Lead/Deputy.

HCA Laboratories has over 35 years’ experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.

The weekday shift times are:

08:00 – 16:30

09:30 – 18:00

10:30 – 19:00

12:00 – 20:30

Weekends:

08:00 – 14:00

08:00 -20:30

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Speedy and accurate processing of samples, and monitoring and resolving of outstanding lists
  • Liaise with 3rd Party Liaison Officer to ensure urgent work is completed on time
  • Ensure Validation / authorising queue is monitored regularly and there are no build ups
  • Ensure processes and flow between specimen reception and Chemistry is efficiently and proactively managed
  • Maintain good working relationship with Consultant Biochemists and ensure results needing clinical escalation happens in real time
  • Actively support training of junior staff and Trainee BMS staff
  • Draw up staff rotas for section cover
  • Ensure equipment in Biochemistry working correctly and that maintenance is performed and recorded
  • Validation of new tests and equipment
  • Review and revision of SOPs and other documents
  • UKAS accreditation

  • MSc desirable but not essential
  • HCPC Registered
  • Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
  • Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences is desirable
