Job description
Overview

Are you a confident individual looking to share your creative skills? Juniper and Cherry Wards at Parklands Hospital Basingstoke and Melbury Lodge Winchester are looking to recruit passionate individuals (part time) to join the teams to provide activities to our service users. Melbury Lodge Winchester has functional mental health wards for adults for illnesses such as depression, personality disorders or schizophrenia plus a specialist mother and baby unit. Parklands Hospital Basingstoke provides inpatient and community adult mental health services, including wards for older people with functional and organic mental health needs and a male psychiatric intensive care unit.

Responsibilities
  • Provide activities to service users as designed and requested by patients over a seven day a week service provision.
  • Deliver activities in collaboration with AHP colleagues to coordinate a timetable of offers.
  • Help patients identify their own recovery goals and what is meaningful to them.
  • Engage proactively in a caring environment and build positive relationships with people, including those with mental health issues (experience or lived experience may be beneficial).
  • Work outside the ward when required (e.g., sport-related activities, walks) and, when appropriate, access the community to gather resources.
  • Adopt a pragmatic and non-judgemental approach to participants.
  • Provide structured opportunities for people to relax and socialise, and explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures related to recreational activities.
  • Demonstrate the use of materials and equipment and respect the customs, individuality, values, sexuality and spiritual beliefs of participants to support their fulfilment.
Qualifications
  • Background in the care sector or previous volunteering is beneficial; however, the ability to create positive relationships and engage proactively in a caring environment is equally important.
  • Experience or willingness to work with mental health service users is valued.
  • Unsocial hours may be worked to meet ward needs; flexible working is welcomed and considered.
  • It is not essential to have a full UK driving licence, as community access by public transport is encouraged when moving forward.
