Overview

Newborn Hearing Screening – Newborn Hearing Screening – St Johns Hospital (and other sites). The post holder will collect and record accurately all clinical and test data relevant to the newborn hearing screening process and deliver screen outcomes in a sympathetic, family‑friendly manner to parents/carers. Training will be provided but experience of working with the public and in a healthcare setting is desirable. Primary base at St Johns Hospital; may also be required to work across a range of sites, including The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and various outpatient locations. A car driver is desirable, although not essential.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the team responsible for the hearing screening of all babies born or resident in Edinburgh and the Lothians.
  • Collect and record accurately all clinical and test data relevant to the newborn hearing screening process.
  • Deliver screen outcomes in a sympathetic, family‑friendly manner to parents/carers.
  • Assist with a range of other duties to support the service.
  • Work under the supervision of the Senior Newborn Hearing Screener and the Newborn Hearing Screening Manager.
  • Cover 5 days from Monday to Friday (08.00 to 16.00 or 08.00 to 15.30) with an occasional shift on Saturday (08.00 to 16.00) if required.
  • Meet the requirement for PVG Scheme membership/record; if not a current PVG member, apply to Disclosure Scotland and be deemed satisfactory before beginning in post.

  • Legal requirement to demonstrate relevant permission to work in the United Kingdom.
Benefits

As from 1 April 2026 the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week; part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

Training will be provided and the position is a full‑time post of 37 hours per week.
