A global leader in transport solutions seeks a Software Development Engineer in Villeurbanne to develop perception solutions for obstacle detection. The ideal candidate will have strong C++ and Python skills, experience in computer vision, and a degree in engineering. Join a collaborative team and contribute to innovative projects toward sustainable mobility.
Company: Alstom
At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.
Could you be the full-time Software Development Engineer for obstacle detection program in Villeurbanne (69 - France) we’re looking for?
Take on a new challenge and apply your software development expertise in a cutting‑edge field. You’ll work alongside a young, multidisciplinary, and motivated team.
You’ll help shape the future of mobility by developing perception solutions for obstacle detection. Day‑to‑day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (system architects, validation and verification teams, software and electronics engineers, as well as installation and deployment teams), actively contributing to the definition, development, and software integration of an obstacle perception and driver assistance system.
You’ll specifically take care of implementing advanced technological strategies for obstacle detection and developing computer vision algorithms and 3D modeling to process environmental data (from cameras, Lidars, Radars, etc.), but also contribute to the deployment of perception solutions for customers, including interface design and integration into the client’s operational context.
We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:
Degree in engineering or a master’s degree with significant experience in software development.
Experience in designing and developing perception solutions (e.g., computer vision, LiDAR) for embedded applications, with knowledge of related techniques (e.g., image or point cloud analysis, filtering, feature extraction, clustering, segmentation, classification, and optimization).
Solid knowledge of C++ and Python software development; familiarity with ROS2 and CI/CD development approaches is a plus.
Skills in Artificial Intelligence applied to perception (an asset).
Experience in software optimization, inference techniques for computer vision, or formal computation (an asset).
Ability to work in a dynamic and uncertain environment, within an international context.
Strong teamwork skills, customer‑oriented mindset, and attention to detail.
Fluent in French and English, German would be a plus.
Join us on a life‑long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:
Enjoy stability, challenges and a long‑term career free from boring daily routines.
Work with experts in engineering, software, and mobility in a stimulating international environment.
Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues.
Contribute to innovative and impactful projects aligned with the path toward autonomous trains.
Utilise our agile and collaborative working environment.
Steer your career in whatever direction you choose.
Progress towards leadership roles or technical expertise.
Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage.
You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
