A leading international company is seeking an Interim Senior Legal Counsel based in La Défense, Paris. The role offers 3-6 months of impactful legal support to the Head of Legal, with the potential to transition into a permanent position. Candidates should have significant B2C legal experience, expertise in competition law, and around 10-15 years of post-qualification experience. This position provides an opportunity to work in a dynamic international environment while supporting critical business initiatives.

Interim Senior Legal Counsel

Location: La Défense, Paris

Start Date: ASAP (target before mid-February)

Duration: 3–6 months (with potential to convert to permanent)

Role Overview

This is a high-impact interim role offering the opportunity to provide essential legal support to the Head of Legal, enhancing the team’s capacity and ensuring continued delivery across a wide-ranging legal remit. The appointment will have immediate impact, safeguarding delivery across key legal areas, with a clear potential to transition into a permanent leadership role.

Company Context

The legal function sits within a well-established, international business with a strong reputation in its sector and a consumer-facing operational footprint across multiple European markets. The role forms part of a highly successful legal team, supported by senior counsel with expertise in European regulation and GDPR. The interim lawyer will provide additional capacity and resilience, playing a key role in maintaining momentum and supporting the Head of Legal, while contributing to the continued delivery of critical legal and business initiatives.

Scope of Responsibilities

The role forms a core part of the legal team and covers a broad and varied remit, including:

  • General commercial and corporate legal support
  • Consumer law and B2C legal matters (a key focus area)
  • Competition law (a key focus area)
  • Compliance and governance matters
  • Oversight of GDPR and privacy-related issues

The role offers the opportunity to work across a dynamic, fast-moving international environment, providing high-value legal advice across multiple jurisdictions and supporting the business in achieving its strategic objectives.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a senior, well-rounded in-house lawyer with:

  • A strong generalist commercial legal background
  • Significant B2C / consumer-facing business experience
  • Demonstrable experience in competition law
  • Significant in-house experience within a corporate environment
  • Exposure to automotive or similarly complex, multi-jurisdictional environments (advantageous but not essential)

Experience in businesses characterised by scale, pace, and operational complexity will be particularly well regarded.

Experience Requirements
  • Senior lawyer with approximately 10–15 years’ post-qualification experience
  • Prior people management or leadership experience
  • Experience holding a senior legal role within an organisation
  • CAPA qualified
Engagement Model & Opportunity
  • Initially (3–6 months) on a fixed term contract
  • Strong possibility of conversion to a permanent role
  • Opportunity to be viewed as a credible long-term successor to the Head of Legal
