A renowned research organization in France seeks a Researcher to conduct a linguistic analysis of anti-Jewish hate speech perceived by students in higher education. The successful candidate will identify relevant social media accounts, collect related discourse, and perform various analyses to assist in redefining categories of anti-Jewish hostility. Experience between 2 to 7 years is required, with proficiency in both French and English at a C2 level. Remote work is possible depending on team requirements.

Offer Description

Conduct a linguistic analysis of anti-Jewish hate speech online as perceived by students in higher education institutions since 2023.

Responsibilities
  • Identify the accounts producing this discourse on various social networks, based on data provided by the research team and network analysis based on the identification of the initial accounts;
  • Collect this discourse and associated comments;
  • Conduct a linguistic analysis of this discourse and its evolution based on the different categories of anti-Jewish hostility identified by the team through interviews with students;
  • Use this analysis to help rework these categories;
  • Cross‑reference this analysis with a linguistic analysis of a corpus of tags and graffiti from higher education institutions (collected by the team);
  • Conduct a lexicometric analysis of a corpus of interviews (conducted by the team) with students who have been exposed to this hostile discourse;
  • Participate in the analysis and drafting of reports.

IDHES is a multi‑disciplinary humanities and social sciences laboratory (CNRS/UPN/Paris 1/Paris 8/EVRY/ENS PARIS SACLAY) with multiple sites and a staff of over 200. The position is based at Paris Nanterre University. The successful candidate will report to the unit director and will be functionally responsible to the scientific manager of the research contract.

A shared office and IT equipment will be provided. Remote working is possible depending on the team's needs. Working hours: 60%.

Technical skills
  • Expertise in collecting and analysing online hate speech;
  • Proficiency in the subject of anti‑Semitism in its historical and contemporary dimensions;
  • Proficiency in lexicometric analysis software;
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary collaboration (sociology, psychology, linguistics);
  • Analytical, summarising and writing skills in French and English. Desired language level: English: C2.
Interpersonal and behavioural skills
  • Ability to work in a team and report on one's activities;
  • Prioritisation and organisation of activities, taking into account constraints and deadlines;
