Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France.
BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
The Water Division's (Direction de l'Eau — DE) mission is to address society's needs regarding water resource management and the environmental impact of human activities on these resources.
You will join the Numerical Modeling of Aquifers Unit (MNA) and contribute to modeling activities, as well as the development and/or validation of the performance of various hydrogeological and hydrological calculation codes. You will bring innovative approaches to optimize and anticipate their quantitative and qualitative management at different scales (local, regional, and national).
The goal is to support public policies, conduct research, and provide services to national and international industries for optimizing integrated resource management (aquifer systems and associated water environments, such as rivers and wetlands).
As part of your duties, you will mainly be responsible for:
- Contribute to integrating innovative approaches to hydrogeological modeling using artificial intelligence.
- Contribute to research projects on managing and protecting groundwater resources quantitatively and qualitatively, particularly in relation to surface water and global change.
- Model groundwater flows in relation to surface water (e.g., aquifer-river exchange and urban network) and the impacts of climate change (e.g., climate scenario projections).
- Contribute to developing public or private research projects, supporting public policy, and promoting international cooperation.
- Promote results in the form of technical reports and publications.

You will mobilize the following technical skills:
- Knowledge of and experience with hydrological and/or hydrogeological modeling
- Knowledge of and experience with AI concepts (machine learning, deep learning, and PINNS) and/or digital twin development
- Experience processing hydrometeorological data
- Experience programming and developing computer codes (Fortran 90, C++, Python, and R)
- Interpersonal skills, enjoyment of teamwork, strong motivation, organization, and rigor - Carrying out and delivering work, as well as complying with contractual clauses
- Initiative and creativity
- Good oral and written communication skills for presenting scientific and technical project results (e.g., publications, articles, and conference presentations)
- Fluency in written and spoken English

This full-time position involves travel, primarily within France and potentially abroad. There is a possibility of renewal at the end of the contract.
