Job Description

A vacancy for a Complex Electronic Systems development responsible (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Helicopters in Marignane. The successful applicant will join the Computers & Electronics department.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Design Responsible to take on the technical leadership for a safety-critical AFDX (Avionics Full-DupleX Switched Ethernet) Network Switch. As the technical authority, you will own the end-to-end definition, architecture, and integrity of the switch, ensuring it meets rigorous performance, safety, and certification requirements (ARINC 664 Part 7, DO-254, DO-178C).

This is a critical role that bridges the gap between detailed electronic hardware design and complex avionics network functionality. You will manage the technical relationship with a key external supplier, driving overall system performance and ensuring seamless certification compliance for our next-generation helicopters.

Your working environment

Major economic hub with Marseille-Provence Airport, Marignane is a dynamic city in the southeast of France. It is located near the cities of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, which host a rich cultural and tourist offer. Close to the beaches of the Côte Bleue, it offers many options for water sports activities.

How we care for you
  • Financial rewards: Attractive salary, agreements on success and profit sharing schemes, employee savings plan abounded by Airbus and employee stock purchase plan on a voluntary basis.

  • Work / Life Balance: Extra days-off for special occasions, holiday transfer option, a Staff council offering many social, cultural and sport activities and other services.

  • Wellbeing / Health: Complementary health insurance coverage (disability, invalidity, death). Depending on the site: health services center, concierge services, gym, carpooling application.

  • Individual development: Great upskilling opportunities and development prospects with unlimited access to +10.000 e-learning courses to develop your employability, certifications, expert career path, accelerated development programmes, national and international mobility.

At Airbus, we support you to work, connect and collaborate more easily and flexibly. Wherever possible, we foster flexible working arrangements to stimulate innovative thinking.

Key Responsibilities
  • System & Architecture Leadership: Define the complete System Architecture of the AFDX Switch, including hardware/software partitioning, performance budgets (latency, throughput), and resource allocation.

  • Requirements Definition: Translate high-level system needs into detailed AFDX Network Requirements, covering Virtual Link (VL) definition, scheduling, traffic shaping, and redundancy management per ARINC 664 Part 7.

  • Supplier Management: Write the technical requirement specification for the switch and lead the technical management of the external supplier throughout the entire development lifecycle, from proposal to final qualification.

  • Technical Oversight: Assess and challenge the supplier's detailed electronic design (schematics, FPGA/SoC integration, high-speed signaling) to ensure deterministic, low-latency network performance.

  • Integration: Define installation constraints and verify the compatibility of electronic and network interfaces between the switch and other helicopter systems.

  • Certification & Verification: Manage interfaces with internal specialists (e.g., environmental qualification, safety, security) to ensure the design meets all requirements (e.g., DO-160). Define the system-level Integration and Verification Plan (IVP) and provide all technical justifications required for Airworthiness Certification.

  • In-Service Support: Provide expert technical support during helicopter integration, ground/flight tests, and for the Final Assembly Line.

Required Profile & Skills
Technical Skills
  • Essential: Deep, proven expertise in the AFDX/ARINC 664 Part 7 protocol, including VL management, redundancy, and QoS mechanisms.

  • Essential: Strong working knowledge of avionics safety standards: DO-254 (Hardware), DO-178C (Software), and DO-160 (Environmental).

  • Solid foundation in Analog and Digital Electronics (high-speed signaling, PCB review, power distribution) to effectively challenge a supplier's design.

  • Familiarity with Ethernet (IEEE 802.3), network topology, and embedded communication systems.

Soft Skills
  • System Thinking: Ability to analyze the system-level impact of detailed electronic or network configuration decisions.

  • Leadership & Rigor: Proven experience managing external suppliers and leading complex, safety-critical development programs.

  • Communication: Excellent technical communication and interpersonal skills to effectively translate requirements between system architects and electronic design engineers.
