About the job

As an AI Engineer lead, your main objective is to oversee the development, implementation, and optimization of advanced AI solutions that support AXA Group’s strategic goals, with hands‑on activities when required. You will lead cross‑functional topics, ensure best practices in AI engineering across entities, and drive innovation to enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and risk management. Additionally, you will collaborate with stakeholders to identify business needs, translate them into technical requirements, and ensure the successful deployment and maintenance of AI systems across the organization.

Main missions

Your responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI and GenAI solutions to support AXA entities.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including data scientists, data engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Set standards and best practices for AI engineering, ensuring scalable, reliable, and ethical AI systems.
  • Lead the development and deployment of the Agentic platform to enhance AI capabilities across AXA entities.
  • Manage and mentor AI engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Expected skills & experience

We are looking for someone with the following experience and skills:

Experience
  • 5+ years delivering AI/ML‑enabled products or GenAI systems (including RAG‑based retrieval and agentic capabilities) in production settings, with demonstrated project leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing engineering teams or cross‑functional project teams.
  • Experience working in the insurance, financial services, or a related industry is a plus.
Technical skills
  • Deep understanding of GenAI system design and deployment, covering prompt design, retrieval workflows, context management, multi‑step reasoning, tool use in agentic scenarios, and safety/privacy considerations.
  • End‑to‑end ML/AI lifecycle expertise aligned with GenAI needs: model/data/versioning, experiment tracking, reproducibility, scalable deployment, monitoring/observability, drift detection, governance, and compliance.
  • Strong software engineering foundations for production‑grade AI services, with pragmatic, library/tool‑agnostic implementation in Python or similar languages and a focus on quality practices.
  • Proficiency in architecting scalable GenAI architectures and pipelines: API design, orchestration of data and model workflows, and integration with other systems and services.
Soft skills / transversal skills
  • Team management: experience in leading, coaching junior team members.
  • Project management: lead end‑to‑end GenAI initiatives, define scope, milestones, timelines, budgets, resource planning, risk management, and ensure on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
  • Stakeholder management: partner with product, business units, compliance, security, legal, and operations; translate business needs into concrete requirements; manage expectations; maintain governance artifacts and transparent status updates.
  • Storytelling and communication: craft compelling narratives around GenAI initiatives, translate complex concepts into clear executive summaries and user stories, and present results effectively to technical and non‑technical audiences; develop metrics dashboards and impact narratives.
  • Agile mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement, iterative delivery, backlog prioritization, and value‑driven outcomes.
  • Collaboration and adaptability: strong teamwork across cross‑functional and multicultural environments; excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for solving challenging problems with cutting‑edge GenAI technologies, coupled with curiosity and a proven ability to learn and apply new techniques and research advances.
