The mission of the Intellectual Property & Legal Department for Research and Innovation is to support all R&I entities in their activities (research collaboration, technology transfers, evaluation, clinical and consumer studies, etc.).

The Legal Department for Europe R&I seeks a Senior R&D Legal Counsel.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Senior R&D Legal Counsel in the Legal Department for Europe R&I, you will draft, negotiate, and monitor contracts related to R&D activities, especially external collaborations, licensing-in, evaluations (MTA), clinical studies, and open innovation projects. You will also serve as legal counsel to scientific teams on legal matters related to R&I scope. Additionally, you may advise and negotiate R&D contracts linked to Group acquisitions (due diligence, licenses, etc.). This role places you at the forefront of future innovations in beauty.

You will engage with R&I scientists, the Group's legal department, support functions (Business Development, Purchasing, Finance), and legal experts in our international research hubs.

Responsibilities

• Contractual Drafting and Negotiation: Prepare, draft, and negotiate various contracts in French and English, including research agreements, license agreements, MTAs, NDAs, consortium agreements, Letters of Intent, and other open innovation contracts.
• Legal Advice: Provide pragmatic legal advice on contractual, intellectual property, regulatory, and legal risk issues related to innovation projects.
• Legal Monitoring: Keep abreast of legislative and case law changes, especially in contract, IP, and health law, and inform relevant teams.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with legal, R&I, project teams, Purchasing, IP, Regulatory Affairs, Business Development, and external partners.
• Support for Open Innovation Projects: Assist in setting up and developing partnerships, ensuring legal security and smooth collaboration.
• Management of Pre-litigation and Litigation: Participate in managing legal disputes related to R&D activities.

Profile:

• Postgraduate law degree, specializing in contract and/or IP law; health law background appreciated.
• Minimum 8 years in-house legal or law firm experience.
• Expertise in drafting and negotiating complex R&D contracts, preferably in healthcare, biotech, pharma, or cosmetics, with knowledge of the public research ecosystem.
• Fluent in French and English, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently and proactively, with strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Rigor, organization, confidentiality, and interest in innovation and science.
