Overview
This PhD position is developed with CENIT, the Innovation Unit in Transport at CIMNE, and the Port of Barcelona. The PhD will be carried out in collaboration with the Department of Strategy and Innovation of the Port of Barcelona and with ongoing interaction with the Port Community of Barcelona and other international ports. This PhD opportunity is financed by the Port of Barcelona.
Responsibilities
- Research on electrical planning applied to the port sector, focusing on green electricity production and storage, auto-consumption and distribution, smart energy grids management, closed grids, electrification of port operations, and electrification of docks (OPS). These topics are indicative. The candidate will help define the research topics in collaboration with the PhD advisor and the Port of Barcelona.
- Work across the offices of the Port of Barcelona and the Center for Innovation in Transport CENIT.
- Produce scientific articles in indexed journals related to the research carried out for the doctoral thesis or postdoctoral project.
- Publish in the Innovation Blog of the Port of Barcelona, PierNext.
- Participate in national and international conferences during the contract duration.
- Collaborate in research and innovation projects with the Center for Innovation in Transport CENIT and the Port of Barcelona.
Required skills
- Master in industrial engineering focused on electrical engineering and planning or a master with deep knowledge in electricity.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
- Innovation and creativity.
- Open-mindedness to work in innovation projects and applied research.
Other valued skills (not mandatory)
- Experience in the maritime and/or ports sectors.
- Scientific publications in the field of electrical grids.
- Experience in international projects.
- Knowledge of other languages.
Qualification system
The requisites and merits will be evaluated with a maximum score of 100 points. The maximum score will be obtained from the following components:

- Selective tests and interview: 40%
