Overview
Senior Cybersecurity Expert (M365 security, MS Purview) (f / m / d)
We are looking for a skilled and proactive Senior Cybersecurity Expert (M365 security, MS Purview) to join our security team. This role combines the definition of the strategy and main goals of different services hosted in the Purview portal with the hands-on technical implementation to maximize the value of the tools available. Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Purview and related Microsoft 365 security solutions are essential, as the central goal is to assess current usage, define priorities, work with stakeholders and drive implementation to address gaps in risk & compliance, data governance, and data security areas. Experience with other Microsoft 365 solutions (e.g., Defender XDR, Entra ID, Intune) is valued.
Responsibilities
- You drive conversations and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, inside and outside IT, to meet requirements for using Purview services. Key stakeholder groups include Legal, Compliance, Cybersecurity Community, Relevant business lines, and Data owners.
- You assess current usage of Microsoft Purview tools and services (including non-cybersecurity components), identify gaps, and work with stakeholders to address them and integrate new tools where applicable.
- You identify and collaborate with IT departments that should act as service owners for Purview-hosted services.
- You lead the implementation and strategic use of Microsoft Purview as the organization’s central data governance solution, providing guidance and alignment across data owners to ensure consistent data policies, classification, and responsible data stewardship—including ownership, documentation, access control, and data quality standards.
- You support automation of information classification using Microsoft Purview to enable proactive identification and protection of sensitive data through scalable, policy-driven tagging and labelling.
- You own the Purview portal, ensuring appropriate permissions and applying least privilege; conduct access reviews and maintain up-to-date documentation.
- You benchmark and select Purview products and deploy proofs of concept with stakeholders to decide on new capabilities to deploy.
- You contribute to troubleshooting, problem-solving, and end-user support to ensure seamless service operation.
- You ensure appropriate licensing for all solutions and collaborate with teams to forecast budgets; analyze license spend for efficiency and necessity.
- You establish monitoring processes to ensure admin activities align with least privilege and audit requirements.
- You coordinate discussions with Microsoft for Purview-related topics.
- You participate in projects to improve our security posture in Microsoft 365 (e.g., DLP, Insider Risk Management, Defender suites, etc.).
What is in it for you
- You will benefit from a flexible work schedule, with up to 80% remote working.
- You will work in a multinational environment with colleagues from around the globe.
- You will be engaged in both hands-on IT/security operations and strategic security improvements.
- You will participate in and lead big projects that impact thousands of employees.
- You will have opportunities to continuously increase knowledge through training and on-the-job learning.
- You will develop your career through involvement in all stages: definition, planning, implementation, and supervision.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant IT work experience, with 5+ years in Microsoft Compliance / Purview solutions and cybersecurity.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Purview and its components (Data Governance, Communication Compliance, Data Lifecycle Management, etc.), with hands-on implementation and configuration; relevant certifications such as Microsoft SC-400 or SC-401 are valued.
- Experience designing, deploying, and managing Purview policies in complex environments.
- Knowledge of other Microsoft 365 security solutions and topics (Microsoft Defender Suite, Microsoft Information Protection, Insider Risk Management, etc.).
- Advanced English, strong communication and negotiation skills; ability to engage stakeholders with varied technical backgrounds.
Additionally
- Enjoy engaging with different teams and facilitating discussions to meet stakeholder expectations.
- Proactive mindset with a passion for staying ahead of potential security risks.
- Analytical, methodical, able to work autonomously and in a team.
- Experience working in global distributed teams.
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new technologies and architectures.
- Willing to provide guidance and mentorship on Purview and best practices.
- Able to drive projects from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time deliverables aligned with business objectives.
