A global leader in steel production is seeking a Computer Vision Specialist for their R&D team in Avilés, Spain. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree and strong expertise in computer vision, specifically for industrial applications. Responsibilities include developing and deploying computer vision models and working effectively with large datasets. A solid understanding of deep learning architectures is required, as well as proficiency in Python. Knowledge of MLOps practices and fluency in English are mandatory.

The Digitalization team is part of the ArcelorMittal R&D Spain Lab and it provides worldwide service within the ArcelorMittal Group. We are a team of more than 70 researchers working on Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence applied to a wide range of activities (manufacturing, product development, environmental, decarbonization, supply chain, commercial, planning & scheduling, etc.). This multidisciplinary team covers a wide variety of scientific and business areas with highly qualified researchers (engineers, mathematicians, physicists, etc.), all of them with deep expertise in combining Science and Business know-how. Main responsibilities

We are seeking a talented and motivated professional to join our team as a Computer Vision Specialist focused on industrial applications. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a technical field and a strong foundation in computer vision, particularly in solving real-world challenges.

The role involves developing and deploying computer vision models, working with large datasets, and contributing to robust, scalable solutions. Familiarity with modern software development practices, real-time processing constraints, and collaborative workflows will be highly valuable. We’re looking for someone who is curious, adaptable, and eager to stay current with emerging trends in the field, while contributing to impactful, technology-driven innovation:

Requirements
  • Masters Degree or PhD in Data Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
  • Strong background in Computer Vision, especially in industrial applications (e.g., defect classification, object tracking, segmentation).
  • Proficiency in Python and relevant libraries.
  • Experience with deep learning architectures (CNNs, transformers, etc.) for vision tasks.
  • Solid understanding of image processing techniques and their application in manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience in deploying CV models in production environments.
  • Solid experience in handling large-scale image and video datasets.
  • Familiarity with data labeling tools and annotation workflows.
  • Familiarity with edge computing and real-time inference constraints.
  • Experience with version control (Git), unit testing, and modular code design.
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices.
  • Interest in continuous learning and staying updated with the latest CV trends.
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory and good level or willingness to learn Spanish is desired
