Job Description

UL Solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer for Engineered Materials with expertise in electrical insulation systems used in magnetic devices such as motors, transformers, generators, and solenoids. This role acts as a Global Subject Matter Expert (SME) within our principal engineering team. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in electrical insulation systems and familiarity with standards such as UL 1446, UL 2353, IEEE C57.12.60, IEC 60085, among others. This position requires a strong client-facing mindset, technical leadership, and stakeholder influence.

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in any UL office.

Responsibilities

1. Serve as Global SME for electrical insulation systems in magnetic devices.
2. Represent UL on standards committees.
3. Publish articles related to technical expertise.
4. Understand test standards, testing technology, and regulations.
5. Act as SME for standards, industry, and test capabilities.
6. Represent UL at industry events and standards committees.
7. Develop new standard programs and capabilities globally.
8. Understand test techniques, procedures, and equipment.
9. Perform complex test procedures as needed.
10. Provide training to staff.
11. Communicate with clients regarding technical issues, standards, and certification requirements.
12. Address client concerns and resolve issues regionally or globally.
13. Drive consistency and quality in the area of expertise.
14. Operate and maintain test equipment for testing customer samples.
15. Apply continuous improvement concepts.
16. Review internal documents for accuracy.
17. Develop special test methods and equipment when needed.
18. Support business activities through client meetings and industry events.
19. Follow UL Code of Conduct and security practices.
20. Perform other duties as directed.

Qualifications

1. University Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
2. Over 10 years of experience with electrical insulation systems.
3. Familiarity with UL 1446, UL 2353, IEEE C57.12.60, IEC 60085.
4. Ability to travel approximately 15%.
5. Strong communication skills for interaction with internal and external teams.
