Platform Engineering Director – (Cloud Infrastructure)

A rapidly growing, well-funded deep-tech company at the forefront of quantum computing and artificial intelligence is searching for a Director of Platform Engineering (Cloud Infrastructure) to join the rapidly expanding, multicultural team.

This is a Hybrid opportunity working out of the HQ in San Sebastian, Spain.

What You'll Do :

Reporting to the CTO, you'll be pivotal in shaping our cloud strategy and enabling business growth :

• Build & Lead Teams : Recruit, mentor, and inspire a world-class platform engineering team.
• Architect & Scale : Define and implement scalable DevOps and MLOps infrastructure.
• Drive SaaS Transformation : Lead our shift to a robust SaaS product.
• Optimise Cloud : Leverage expertise in AWS and Azure to build an efficient, fully cloud-driven model.
• Manage Scale : Oversee significant computational loads for a 100+ engineer company.
• Communicate : Effectively convey complex technical concepts to leadership.

Who We're Looking For :

A leader with a strong technical background and a proven track record :

• Master’s in Computer Science or related field (PhD preferred).
• 5+ years in software engineering / DevOps, including 2+ years leading DevOps / platform teams.
• Exceptional leadership, able to prioritise, manage urgency, and deliver long-term goals.
• Outstanding communication, translating complex concepts without jargon. Fluent in English.

Technical Expertise :

• Solid understanding of DevOps practices and agile methodologies.
• Proven experience deploying SaaS solutions.
• Expertise deploying applications to Kubernetes.
• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and Azure.
• Demonstrable experience with automation tools (e.g., Terraform).
• Preferred : Database experience (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and infrastructure design for ML / data analytics.
