Overview
We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our R&D team in Granada, Spain.
Our technology focuses on Resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (R-PNT) solutions that improve reliability, performance and safety of critical applications and high-risk operations, even in GPS/GNSS denied environments. We provide fail-safe GNSS and PNT solutions for military and commercial applications worldwide. Our solutions are built around ultra-accurate synchronization (sub-ns) and frequency distribution services, leveraging White Rabbit PTP synchronization for various applications, from timing distribution in financial networks to robust positioning. We have expertise in Time Sensitive Networking and deterministic communications in aerospace with ESA, aiming to deliver reliable timing at their core.
The Position
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will begin a motivating engagement with the R&D Engineering Team in Granada, Spain. You will help develop the main elements of a synchronization system that extends White Rabbit timing over a wireless interface for a prototype of wireless White Rabbit timing. You will assist in the design, integration, and validation of software and embedded firmware for the prototype, which may include:
- Designing custom Linux kernel modules and drivers, specialized Linux images, user-level applications, software libraries, or test automation procedures.
- Implementing extensions to the synchronization protocol to use the new wireless interface, and debugging issues arising during design.
- Assembling experimental demonstrators and potentially traveling to showcase proofs of concept during final stages.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop software elements of current embedded Timing products and upcoming Safran products, including custom kernel modules and protocol extensions.
- Validate software components, ensure operation in embedded Linux, and debug complex issues involving SW and FPGA elements on an embedded system.
- Collaborate with Testing and Quality teams to ensure developments meet specifications.
- Apply critical thinking and problem-solving to deliver high-quality results within schedule, effort, and budget constraints.
- Work with the latest Resilient PNT and deterministic technologies.
Main responsibilities
- Carry out development tasks according to the project plan.
- Provide estimates of workload and plan work accordingly.
- Contribute to development and validation of components.
- Check deliverables quality through systematic unit testing.
- Participate in final qualification of deliverables and validation of documentation.
What you Bring to Safran
- Master’s Degree in Telecommunications, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Technical skills in software development, embedded Linux, software engineering, and Linux kernel driver development and debugging.
- Ambition to grow and develop professionally; passion for challenges and technology; ability to participate in ambitious international projects.
- Minimum requirement of 1-2 years’ experience in:
- Embedded Linux generation tools and build systems (e.g., Buildroot, PetaLinux).
- Embedded software development and debugging for embedded Linux and standalone environments (e.g., microcontrollers, bare metal for Xilinx devices).
- Working knowledge of debugging tools (GDB, DDD, or Valgrind).
- Automation and scripting skills (e.g., bash, TCL).
- Knowledge of main programming languages for embedded and prototyping (C, C++, Python).
- Experience with repositories and version control (Git, SVN).
- Desirable experience in:
- Linux kernel network drivers, DMA modes, and kernel modifications.
- Embedded software development, testing, and debugging involving multiple interactions (kernel, user applications, FPGA IP modules); familiarity with timing, synchronization, and protocol concepts (PTP, NTP, SyncE).
- Designing and building RESTful API services.
- Knowledge of Xilinx architectures (Zynq-7000, UltraScale, Zynq MPSoC).
The keys of our offer
- Be part of a leading and expanding company.
- Health insurance.
- Flexible work schedule.
- International and dynamic environment in Granada, Spain with travel and collaboration with teams in France and the United States.
